Cardano Foundation touts supply-chain traceability launch with Brazil's Blockforce
The Cardano Foundation and Brazilian firm Blockforce say Cardano is now live as the public "proof layer" for a supply-chain traceability platform used by fashion groups including Azzas 2154, with over 500,000 records anchored.
The Cardano Foundation and São Paulo-based Blockforce said on 31 August that Cardano is now running as the public "proof layer" in Blockforce's supply-chain traceability platform, which they say has anchored more than 500,000 records in production with Brazilian fashion groups.
The design is a two-tier, or "dual-ledger," system. Detailed records for each supply-chain step live on a permissioned network visible only to the parties involved; only a cryptographic proof of each record is written to the public Cardano blockchain, where an auditor, regulator or customer can check that a record is genuine without seeing the underlying commercial data. The Foundation frames this as separating confidentiality from verifiability.
Cost was the stated obstacle. Anchoring hundreds of thousands of records to a public chain "was never viable at enterprise scale," the Foundation said, and it credits joint engineering work — including a tool it calls uVerify and certificate "batching" — with cutting the cost per record by 92%.
Named as a customer is Azzas 2154, described by the Foundation as Latin America's largest fashion group, which uses the platform to trace its leather supply chain by cross-referencing fiscal documents, supplier records and public databases. Suelen Joner, the company's head of sustainability, said the goal is to trace 100% of leather across its brands by 2030. The Foundation says signed contracts cover 6.5 million certified records through 2030, with planned expansion into automotive, agribusiness, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
Key facts
- Cardano live as the public proof layer in Blockforce's traceability platform; announced 31 August 2026 (Cardano Foundation).
- More than 500,000 supply-chain records anchored to date (Cardano Foundation).
- Claimed 92% reduction in cost per record from joint engineering work (Cardano Foundation).
- Signed contracts covering 6.5 million certified records through 2030 (Cardano Foundation).
- Named customer: Azzas 2154, targeting 100% leather traceability by 2030 (Suelen Joner, Azzas 2154, via the Foundation).
The real-world read
Every figure here comes from a single joint press release by the two companies selling the product — none is independently verified. The "500,000 records" and the headline "92% cost reduction" are self-reported, with no baseline cost, throughput data or third-party audit disclosed, so the 92% figure can't be checked. The "6.5 million records through 2030" is a contracted projection, not delivered work. Note the framing from Blockforce CEO André Salem — that compliance "becomes a credential for entering the European market" — which reads as a sales pitch to exporters facing EU due-diligence rules, not a neutral finding. What's left unsaid: how many companies beyond Azzas 2154 are actually live, what fraction of records are anchored versus contracted, and any detail letting outsiders confirm the volumes. Blockchain provenance also only certifies that a record exists and is unchanged — not that the underlying claim about the physical goods is true.
Opinion, and whose
The Cardano Foundation's Guilherme Pereira called the launch a sign of "where it is going: Cardano as a verification layer" for compliance-heavy industries — a forecast, and the Foundation's own. Salem's claim that the confidentiality-versus-verifiability trade-off "is gone" is Blockforce's marketing position.
