XRP's onchain volume is clustering in the London–New York overlap, and a treasury firm says that's institutions
Ledger data compiled by treasury firm Evernorth shows about 23% of XRP's onchain volume now lands in the three-hour London–New York overlap, up from roughly 14% a year ago, as the token rose 15% to around $1.15.
Roughly 23% of the XRP moving across the XRP Ledger now does so inside a single three-hour window — the London afternoon overlapping the New York morning — up from about 14% a year earlier, according to ledger data compiled by treasury firm Evernorth and shared with CoinDesk, which published the figures Thursday.
That window is 12.5% of a 24-hour day, so activity inside it runs at close to twice the rate a flat, evenly distributed day would produce. Evernorth said the concentration appears across all three venues built into the ledger: the native order book, the automated market maker pools, and cross-currency payments routed through both. The firm framed the shift as consistent with rising institutional interest, noting in a statement to CoinDesk that it is "the same window global FX concentrates in, and it's the only stretch of the day when the world's two biggest financial centers are open at once."
The data landed alongside a move in price. CoinDesk reported XRP up more than 15% over 24 hours to around $1.15 on Thursday, briefly touching $1.16, against a broader rally that carried bitcoin above $72,000 — a session CoinDesk separately reported as wiping out roughly $3 billion in bearish bets and drawing about $700 million of bitcoin ETF inflows.
The price context matters because of what preceded it. An earlier CoinDesk analysis found average XRP spot order sizes sitting in what it classed as big-whale territory throughout the token's decline from roughly $2.40 in January into the $1.00–$1.20 band — large orders arriving without moving the tape, which CoinDesk read as absorption rather than a building breakout.
Key facts
- ~23% of XRP onchain volume in the three-hour London–NY overlap, vs ~14% a year ago — Evernorth ledger analysis via CoinDesk.
- Window is 12.5% of the day; activity inside it runs at nearly 2x an even distribution — CoinDesk's arithmetic on the same data.
- Pattern spans order book, AMM pools and cross-currency payments — Evernorth.
- XRP +15% in 24h to ~$1.15, high ~$1.16, Thursday — CoinDesk.
- Bitcoin above $72,000 the same session; ~$3bn in shorts liquidated, ~$700m ETF inflows — CoinDesk.
- XRP fell from ~$2.40 in January to the $1.00–$1.20 range with whale-sized average orders throughout — earlier CoinDesk report.
The real-world read
Evernorth is an XRP treasury company. It supplied the dataset, it supplied the interpretation, and both point at a conclusion — institutions are accumulating XRP — that is good for its own balance sheet. The underlying ledger is public, but the aggregation is not independently verified.
CoinDesk, to its credit, says the data cannot identify who is transacting. The same window is when most crypto news breaks, when U.S. retail volume peaks, and when arbitrage desks are fully staffed. Any of those produces the identical shape.
Note also the internal wobble: CoinDesk's own summary says XRP "jumped more than 14%" while the headline and body say over 15%. Small, but the exact print isn't consistent within one piece. And nothing here explains why absorption resolved upward today, on a day bitcoin ran hard — separating XRP-specific demand from beta is not something the timestamp data can do.
Opinion, and whose
- Evernorth: the clustering is consistent with growing institutional interest.
- CoinDesk: the pattern is real but unattributable; several non-institutional explanations fit equally well.
- No one quoted forecast a price target.
