Tokenized SpaceX shares drive on-chain equity trading to a record $3.86B in June

On-chain tokenized-equity trading jumped 145% to a record $3.86 billion in June, with tokenized SpaceX shares alone accounting for $1.19 billion after the company's $75 billion IPO, per a CoinDesk Data report.

On-chain trading of tokenized equities hit a record $3.86 billion in June, up 145% from May, according to CoinDesk Data's latest Stablecoins & Tokenized Assets report as relayed by CoinDesk. The surge was concentrated in one name: tokenized SpaceX (SPCX) shares, which accounted for $1.19 billion — about 31% of all tokenized-equity volume for the month.

The activity followed SpaceX's $75 billion IPO, described in the report as the largest on record, which CoinDesk says valued the company at roughly $1.8 trillion on a fully diluted basis. Two competing token wrappers captured most of the SpaceX flow: Backpack Securities' SPCX led at $1.08 billion in on-chain volume, followed by xStocks' SPCXx at $852 million. Backpack's tokenized products traded $1.42 billion in total for the month, most of it SPCX.

The report frames this as a shift in what's pulling demand into tokenized stocks. Established tickers — Nvidia, Tesla, SPY and QQQ — stayed actively traded, but none approached SpaceX. The overall sector reached a record $1.53 billion market cap in June, up 6.64% month-over-month, its fifteenth consecutive month of growth.

The same report cuts the other way on stablecoins: their combined market cap fell to $312 billion in June, which CoinDesk Data calls the largest monthly drop since the TerraUSD collapse in 2022.

The real-world read

Two cautions. First, everything here traces to a single report from CoinDesk Data, relayed by its corporate sibling CoinDesk — one interested party measuring a market and its own outlet writing it up. There is no independent corroboration in the material, and no primary on-chain data or methodology is shown; treat the precise figures as one vendor's count, not settled fact.

Second, the numbers describe churn, not ownership. A $3.86 billion monthly volume against a $1.53 billion market cap means the entire sector turned over more than twice in a month — trading froth around a hot IPO, not durable holding. The report is silent on what SPCX holders actually own: whether these tokens are legally backed by, or redeemable for, real SpaceX shares, and how Backpack's and xStocks' separate wrappers are each collateralized. Those are the questions that matter, and the source doesn't answer them. Worth noting the report's own counterweight — stablecoins, the plumbing under all this, saw their worst contraction since Terra in the same month.

This is news coverage, not investment advice. Tokenized equities carry legal, custody and counterparty risks the figures above don't capture.
