Solana treasury DFDV adds $3M in SOL as its buying pace keeps slowing
DeFi Development Corp's Oct. 5 8-K shows it bought about 26,203 SOL (~$3 million) in late September, lifting holdings to 2,564,212 SOL and equivalents — roughly half the prior week's pace.
DeFi Development Corp (Nasdaq: DFDV) disclosed in an 8-K filed Oct. 5 that it added roughly 26,203 SOL — about $3 million — between Sept. 28 and Oct. 2, bringing its stash to 2,564,212 SOL and "SOL equivalents," a term the filing doesn't define. That's a 1% rise from the 2,538,010 it reported on Sept. 25, per Decrypt's reading of the filing. (The same report cites the figure as both 26,203 and 26,202 in different passages; the holdings total and the ~$3 million value are consistent.)
The notable number is the trend, not the total. DFDV added 101,381 SOL in the week ending Sept. 18 and 47,706 the following week, Decrypt reports — so the latest buy is about half the prior week and roughly a quarter of mid-September's pace. The company values the treasury at $302 million and says it's up 11% since Aug. 12.
DFDV is a digital asset treasury (DAT) company — the Strategy playbook applied to Solana — and runs its own validators. Formerly commercial real-estate platform Janover, it pivoted in 2025; it held nearly 600,000 SOL in May 2025 and now holds more than four times that, which it describes as the world's second-largest SOL position.
It funds buying partly through CHAD, a preferred stock with a $10 stated amount currently paying 13% annually ($1.30/share), a rate the board can change. DFDV paid the first CHAD dividend Oct. 1 and has declared daily dividends of $0.00516/share through Oct. 30. It also has a $300 million at-the-market share-sale program. The CHAD IPO itself was small: offered Sept. 1 at 2.2 million shares for $9 (up to $19.8 million), it priced two days later at 1,375,000 shares for $8, about $11 million — a sliver of the $302 million treasury.

The real-world read CEO Joseph Onorati's company press release says "the DFDV ship is flying at lightning speed." The filing says the opposite: three straight weeks of shrinking purchases. Treat the "lightning speed" and "11% since Aug. 12" framing as company marketing — the 11% is backward-looking and smooths over the recent slowdown. The Q3 figures (NAV per share up "more than 100%") are preliminary estimates as of Sept. 30, not final results, per the filing. And the DAT model has a known failure mode Decrypt flags: these firms grow by selling shares above the value of the crypto behind them, and growth stalls once shares slip below that value — as many did by December 2025, Strategy included. An undefined "SOL equivalents" line sitting inside the headline holdings number is worth watching.
Opinion, and whose Onorati (DFDV press release): the treasury is growing fast and gives investors "magnified" SOL exposure. Decrypt's own read: that magnification cuts both ways, and the buying pace is cooling.
