Solana says MoneyGram cash on- and off-ramps are live, with the details still unstated

Solana's official account said MoneyGram Ramps is live, letting wallet developers plug into an API for cash in and out at MoneyGram locations across 170 countries.

Solana's official account posted on Aug. 13, 2026 at 15:30 UTC that MoneyGram Ramps has gone live on the network, publishing a video clip of Amira Valliani (@amiravalliani) describing what the integration does.

Per Valliani in that clip, MoneyGram "has 500,000 locations all over the world, one of the biggest networks for people moving money across borders," and the company has "opened up that infrastructure for people building on Solana." The mechanism she describes is an API: "If you're building a wallet or an application, you can tap into MoneyGram's API and make it easy for people to take cash in and get that onramped into a wallet." On the reverse leg, she said, "if you're in one of 170 countries, you can offramp and turn money that lives in a Solana wallet into local cash."

That is the whole of what was announced. No fee schedule, no named stablecoin or token that cash converts into, no launch partner wallets, no per-transaction or KYC limits, and no confirmation of how many of those 500,000 agent locations actually support the flow. MoneyGram itself was tagged in the post but issued no statement alongside it, and no filing, blog post or press release from either company accompanied the announcement.

Key facts

  • MoneyGram Ramps described as live on Solana — Solana's official account, Aug. 13, 2026, 15:30 UTC.
  • 500,000 MoneyGram locations claimed; 170 countries cited for off-ramp coverage — Amira Valliani, in the clip Solana posted.
  • Access is via MoneyGram's API, aimed at wallet and app developers — Valliani, same clip.
  • Fees, supported assets, partner wallets, limits and rollout schedule: not disclosed in the announcement.

The real-world read

The only source for any of this is Solana's own marketing account quoting a speaker at a Solana event. That is a promotional channel describing a promotional milestone, and every number in it — 500,000 locations, 170 countries — originates with the interested parties, not an independent count or a MoneyGram disclosure.

The two headline figures are also doing different jobs. "500,000 locations" is MoneyGram's global retail footprint; "170 countries" is attached specifically to the off-ramp. Nothing in the announcement says cash-in works everywhere cash-out does, and the phrasing quietly leaves that gap open.

Separately, a widely-liked reply from @stakecraft asserts MoneyGram "processed $20B+ in transfers in 2023." No source was given for that figure, it did not come from either company, and it should not be treated as established.

Finally: an API being available to developers is not the same as a working product in users' hands. Until a named wallet ships it with a published fee, this is an integration announcement, not an adoption number.

Opinion, and whose

  • Valliani characterized MoneyGram as "one of the biggest networks for people moving money across borders" — her framing, in a Solana-published clip.
  • @a1lon9_builds called it "a huge deal" for onboarding and said they were "kinda bullish on this."
  • @stakecraft called it "one of the more practical real-world integrations crypto has seen."

None of the above is a company forecast, and none has been independently verified.
