Robinhood says it bought ~$25M in bitcoin for its balance sheet — but hasn't confirmed it in a filing
Robinhood's crypto chief Johann Kerbrat said at a Singapore conference the brokerage added about $25 million in bitcoin to its balance sheet, a purchase the company itself has not confirmed.
Robinhood has put roughly $25 million of bitcoin on its corporate balance sheet, according to Johann Kerbrat, the company's senior vice president and general manager of crypto and international. Kerbrat made the disclosure in an interview on The Starting Block at the Digital Asset Summit (DAS) Asia conference on Wednesday, Oct. 7, as reported by CoinDesk.
Two caveats up front. First, this is an executive's on-stage remark, not a company filing or press release — CoinDesk notes Robinhood "has not confirmed the purchase," and the outlet said it separately asked Robinhood's press team whether it plans to buy more. Second, the size is deliberately small. "Robinhood is a massive company at this point, with a market cap in the $100 billion range. So the $25 million worth of bitcoin is not going to change a lot of the current trajectory of the company," Kerbrat said, framing the buy as a signal of "how deeply we care about bitcoin and the ecosystem."
For scale: at bitcoin's quoted price of roughly $83,876 per CoinDesk's data, $25 million is about 298 BTC. The disclosure landed on a down day — CoinDesk separately reported bitcoin dipping below $84,000 as oil rose on reported attacks on Iranian tankers.
Robinhood joins what CoinDesk describes as a cohort of more than 170 public companies holding bitcoin as a treasury asset — a trend Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) began in 2020. Named corporate holders including Tesla, Block, MARA Holdings, CleanSpark and Riot Platforms together hold "well over 1.2 million BTC," per CoinDesk. Robinhood's stake is a rounding error against that.

The real-world read
Treat this as a marketing beat until a filing says otherwise. The number is unconfirmed by the company, delivered by its own crypto chief at a crypto conference, and framed by that same executive as immaterial to the business — a $25 million position against a ~$100 billion market cap is roughly 0.025%. That combination (small enough not to matter, large enough to tweet) is the point: it buys credibility with the bitcoin crowd Robinhood sells to without meaningful balance-sheet exposure. The ecosystem-love language is the tell. Worth watching whether this shows up in an actual quarterly filing, and whether the "plans to buy more" question Robinhood declined to answer gets a real answer.
