MoneyGram says its cash ramps are live on Solana, with one app integrated and no fee disclosure

MoneyGram says its Ramps cash-in/cash-out product went live on Solana on August 11, with wallet app Rift as the first integration; the company has not disclosed fees, supported assets or launch countries.

MoneyGram announced on August 11 that MoneyGram Ramps — its cash-in/cash-out rails — is live on Solana, and pointed developers to a dedicated page at xramps.moneygram.com/solana. The announcement came from MoneyGram's own X account at 13:05 UTC and was reshared by the @solana account. Wallet app Rift (@riftapp) is named as the first integration.

The headline figures are MoneyGram's own: users can "cash in across 25+ countries" and "cash out across 170+ countries and territories." That gap between the two numbers is the most substantive detail in the announcement and went unexplained. Cashing out through 170-plus markets describes MoneyGram's long-standing payout footprint; cashing in — walking into an agent location with physical currency and funding an on-chain wallet — is limited to a fraction of that.

In a reply on August 12 (14:14 UTC), MoneyGram confirmed the mechanic directly. Asked whether a user could walk in and buy Solana with cash, the company answered "pretty close," adding that a customer can bring cash to a participating location in one of the 25-plus countries "to add funds to your Solana wallet (like @riftapp)." A minute later, answering a separate question about Ethereum support, MoneyGram said Ramps runs on "just Solana and Stellar at the moment" — the company's own confirmation that Solana is an addition to an existing Stellar deployment, not a first move into crypto rails.

What MoneyGram did not say: what it charges, which asset or stablecoin the ramp settles in, which 25 countries are live, what KYC or transaction limits apply, or whether any commercial arrangement exists between MoneyGram and Solana's ecosystem. No third-party outlet or filing corroborating the launch has surfaced alongside the announcement.

The real-world read

This is a corporate product announcement amplified by the chain it benefits, and it should be read as marketing until fees and a country list exist. Every number in it comes from MoneyGram, and the two headline figures measure different things — 170-plus is a legacy remittance network, 25-plus is the actual new capability. Quoting them in the same breath makes the launch sound roughly seven times larger than it is.

"First to integrate" is doing similar work: one wallet app is live. And in the replies, two separate complaints about a USDC on/off-ramp problem — the more visible of which drew over a hundred likes — went unanswered by MoneyGram while the company replied to congratulatory posts within hours. Existing users flagging a broken ramp is a relevant data point about a company announcing a new one.

Opinion, and whose

The bullish takes are all from interested or unaffiliated retail accounts, not analysts: Ubik Capital, a Solana staking operator, said the integration "simplifies the move between cash and the Solana ecosystem"; Rift called it proof that "moving money globally has never been easier." Both have direct stakes in the outcome. No independent estimate of volume, cost or adoption has been published.
