Mesh and Visa say they'll let users spend crypto at checkout — once they decide where and when

Crypto payments firm Mesh said it has partnered with Visa to let users spend crypto and stablecoin balances from participating wallet apps at Visa-accepting merchants, though no launch date or supported platforms were named.

Mesh, a crypto payments infrastructure firm, has partnered with Visa to let users spend cryptocurrency and stablecoin balances held in participating wallet apps at Visa-accepting merchants, the company said in a release reported by The Block on October 19. The pitch is that there is no separate card to order: a Visa credential is provisioned behind the scenes, and Mesh handles the funding and currency conversion at the moment of payment, so users don't have to sell or move assets first.

What's conspicuously absent is the part that would make it real. Per The Block, initial availability, which devices are supported, and which wallet platforms are participating have all "yet to be announced." In other words, this is an announcement of intent, not a product you can use today.

Mesh is not a nobody in this lane. The Block reports it built PayPal's "Pay with Crypto" launch, pushed its total funding past $130 million in August 2025 with backing from PayPal Ventures and Coinbase Ventures, and reached unicorn status after a $75 million Series C led by Dragonfly in January. The Visa tie-up is also a familiar move for Visa, which has run similar plumbing before — a planned April arrangement with WeFi for self-custody spending, and a partnership last year with Bridge to let developers issue Visa cards funded by stablecoin balances.

Key facts

  • Mesh and Visa will let users spend crypto/stablecoin balances from participating wallet apps at more than 175 million merchant locations, with conversion handled by Mesh (Mesh release, via The Block, Oct 19, 2026). The 175M-location figure is Visa's standard network claim.
  • Launch date, supported devices and participating platforms: not yet announced (The Block).
  • Mesh built PayPal's "Pay with Crypto"; funding topped $130M in Aug 2025 (PayPal Ventures, Coinbase Ventures); $75M Series C led by Dragonfly in January gave it unicorn status (The Block).
  • Visa precedents: WeFi self-custody spending (planned April) and Visa–Bridge stablecoin-funded cards (last year) (The Block).

The real-world read The load-bearing quote — Mesh CEO Bam Azizi's line that "crypto never had a spending problem — it has a last-mile problem" — comes from Mesh's own release, so treat it as marketing, not a verified claim. The mechanics that actually matter to a user went undisclosed: no conversion fees, no spreads, no fiat settlement terms, and no mention that in many jurisdictions spending crypto is a taxable disposal every time you tap. Visa has announced versions of "spend your crypto directly" more than once (Bridge, WeFi), which cuts against the novelty framing. Until Mesh names a launch date, a wallet partner and a fee schedule, there is no consumer product here — only a signed deal and a press line.

Opinion, and whose Azizi (Mesh) frames conversion-at-payment as solving crypto's "last-mile problem." That's the vendor's characterization of its own product; no independent test or pricing exists to assess it yet.
