Matter Labs open-sources Prividium's core engine, with the Bundesbank as first tester

Matter Labs, the developer behind ZKsync, said Tuesday it has open-sourced the permissioning engine of Prividium — its distributed-ledger platform aimed at banks and other financial institutions — and that Deutsche Bundesbank, Germany's central bank, is the first institution testing the code inside its own infrastructure, according to The Block.

The change lets an institution run a permissioned chain from public code in its own environment, inspecting, running and modifying the core rather than depending on a single vendor, Matter Labs said. The design keeps smart-contract and token data inside the operator's environment while using zero-knowledge proofs to verify correctness. CEO Alex Gluchowski told The Block that several Prividium components were already public — the ZKsync OS core, the Atlas sequencer, the Airbender prover, interoperability contracts, and the block-explorer and monitoring stack — and that the permissioning engine will run as a standalone component, operable without a commercial agreement.

Asked why now, Gluchowski said the move followed feedback from regulated institutions: "a commercial-only core meant a single-vendor dependency they could not accept in critical infrastructure." He added that the change does not alter the role of the ZK token, only which parts of Prividium are public code versus commercial products.
