Hyperliquid Strategies reports a $1.9 billion HYPE pile — and $773 million of buying since

Nasdaq-listed Hyperliquid Strategies reported raising $647 million in equity and more than doubling its HYPE holdings to 29.3 million tokens, then buying 16.5 million more for $773.4 million.

Hyperliquid Strategies, the Nasdaq-listed treasury vehicle trading under the ticker PURR, told investors Thursday morning it raised $647 million in equity capital and more than doubled its holdings of HYPE, Hyperliquid's native token, to 29.3 million tokens worth roughly $1.9 billion at the close of the reporting period, according to The Block, which drew on the company's earnings release.

Since that period ended, the company said, it has spent $773.4 million buying about 16.5 million more HYPE at an average cost of $46.77 per token, and $27.8 million buying back its own shares. That left $132.6 million of cash as of Aug. 19, down from $149.9 million, with no debt. Taken together, the two disclosures put the company at roughly 45.8 million HYPE.

The accounting line most likely to be waved around: $709.9 million in net unrealized gains on HYPE, partly offset by a one-time $169.2 million loss on tokens contributed after the business combination that created the company. Both are marks, not cash.

CEO David Schamis, quoted in the press release, called the result a "fortress balance sheet" — meaningful cash, no debt, substantially all tokens staked — and said Hyperliquid is "winning the parts of onchain finance that generate real fees," with most value returned to holders via programmatic buybacks. That is the pitch of a company whose balance sheet is one token.

The stock moved. The Block reported PURR trading near $13.59 with a market cap around $1.8 billion and an mNAV of about 1.35x, its highest since May. HYPE itself rose 77% in the quarter ended June 30 and more than 50% over the past month, per The Block's price data.

The real-world read

The move size doesn't agree with itself: The Block's headline says PURR jumped 15%, its own text says "nearly 18%." Range, then — 15% to 18%, one outlet, unreconciled.

The period is muddy too. The report is billed as first-half fiscal earnings, yet the $1.9 billion treasury is marked "at the end of its fiscal year." Those aren't the same date.

The mNAV doesn't obviously square. A 1.35x multiple on a $1.8 billion market cap implies net assets near $1.3 billion — below a treasury the company itself values at $1.9 billion, before $773.4 million of later buying. Share count and the HYPE price used weren't disclosed, so the figure can't be checked.

Note the implied prices: 29.3 million tokens at $1.9 billion is roughly $65 each, while the post-period 16.5 million came in at $46.77 average. The buying happened below the mark.

Every operating number here originates with the issuer, and "fortress balance sheet" is a press-release phrase, not a rating. Nothing has been independently verified. And the Trump remark is a spoken aside about a named official's intentions — not a filing, an approval, or a confirmation from any agency.

Opinion, and whose

The "winning the parts of onchain finance that generate real fees" thesis and the fortress framing are Schamis's, in a release from a company that benefits when HYPE rises. The Block presented the earnings figures without independent verification.
