Crypto's Fairshake Pushes Spending Against Sherrod Brown Past $46 Million

Crypto super PAC Fairshake's affiliate Defend American Jobs disclosed roughly $7 million in fresh anti-Sherrod Brown ad spending, pushing its 2026 total against the Ohio Democrat to about $46.66 million.

The crypto industry's largest political spender has deepened its bet against one specific candidate. A Federal Election Commission filing signed Oct. 15 by Defend American Jobs — the Fairshake affiliate that operates in Republican-friendly races — discloses a $5.2 million media buy opposing Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, followed days later by a roughly $1.95 million buy, plus media-production costs. The filing lists Brown's calendar-year-to-date total at about $46.66 million, per an FEC filing described by Decrypt.

That figure makes Brown the most expensive single target of crypto's 2026 campaign, well past the "at least $30 million" Fairshake had earlier signaled it would spend against him. The same filing records parallel spending supporting Brown's Republican opponent, Jon Husted, who was appointed to the seat last year.

Brown, a longtime crypto skeptic, chaired the Senate Banking Committee — the perch from which he stalled market-structure legislation — before losing his seat in 2024, a race Fairshake spent roughly $40 million to influence. A Brown return to the Senate would restore a prominent industry critic to that committee.

The Senate blitz follows an Oct. 5 move into the House. Fairshake said it would back 32 incumbents — 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats — all of whom voted to advance the Clarity Act when it passed the House in July 2025. It committed an initial $6 million, $1 million each, to six: Republicans French Hill, Bill Huizenga and Bryan Steil, and Democrats Janelle Bynum, Steven Horsford and Derek Tran.

The real-world read

Fairshake markets itself as a bipartisan "issue-focused group" backing "pro-crypto candidates" in both parties — and its House slate (13 Democrats) supports that framing. But the Brown numbers show where the real energy sits: roughly $46.66 million aimed at defeating one critic dwarfs the $6 million spread across six House incumbents. The "bipartisan" label and the single-target spend are not in tension so much as they reveal the priority. Note also that the dollar figures trace to a single secondary account (Decrypt) of an FEC filing; the underlying filing is the primary record, and the precise buy amounts and dates should be read as what Decrypt reported from it. The filing itself is a disclosure of intent to spend, not proof the ads moved the race.
