Cardano Foundation launches programmable token standard, spins out Veridian identity unit
The Cardano Foundation says it has launched its CIP-0113 programmable token standard on mainnet and spun Veridian out as a standalone identity company, both unveiled at TOKEN2049 Singapore.
The Cardano Foundation used TOKEN2049 Singapore last week to announce two infrastructure pieces aimed at regulated, real-world assets: a programmable token standard now said to be live on Cardano mainnet, and the spin-out of its digital identity project, Veridian, as an independent company. Both announcements come from the Foundation itself, in a press release dated 8 October 2026.
The standard, CIP-0113, lets issuers of stablecoins, tokenized funds, bonds and similar instruments embed rules — KYC/AML checks, sanctions screening, transfer restrictions — directly into the token, with the Cardano ledger enforcing them on each transfer, per the Foundation.
Veridian, led by CEO Thomas A. Mayfield and chaired by Foundation CEO Frederik Gregaard, issues verifiable credentials for governments, organizations and AI agents without a central database, the Foundation says. Its own shares are described as the first asset tokenized on Cardano under the new standard. Veridian says it will seek strategic partners and investors in 2027 to expand work with US state governments, European enterprise clients and an Asia-Pacific issuer network.
The Foundation also pointed to a previously announced Fireblocks integration to bring Cardano native tokens onto that custody platform, and to the UTXO Pitch Night co-presented with Draper Dragon — the two also run the $80 million Orion Fund launched in early 2026. Gregaard said custody is "set for March" and that 2027's focus is bringing more real assets on-chain.

The real-world read
This is the Foundation's own conference announcement, and it should be read as one. Every claim traces to a single interested party — there's no independent confirmation yet that CIP-0113 is carrying live regulated assets beyond Veridian tokenizing its own equity, which is a tidy marketing proof-of-concept, not external adoption. No issuers, volumes or AUM were named.
Note the overlap: Gregaard is both Foundation CEO and Veridian's chair, so his "trust starts with transparency" framing is pitching a company he leads. The Fireblocks custody link is "set for March" — i.e. not yet live — and the Draper Dragon tie is a partner the Foundation co-funds. The booth-traffic numbers measure event footfall, not usage. Worth watching whether any third-party issuer actually ships under the standard before treating it as more than a launch claim.
